A Choice Eliminator alternative without an add-on
If you came here searching for Choice Eliminator, Choice Eliminator Lite or Choice Eliminator 2, here is the same result done a different way.
Same goal, different approach
Choice Eliminator is a popular Google Forms add-on that removes options once they’ve been chosen a set number of times. If add-ons are allowed in your account and you’re happy with what they can access, it’s a reasonable choice.
Form Choice Limiter does the same job as a script that lives inside your own form instead of an add-on. That difference matters in a few situations.
When a script is the better fit
- Your organisation blocks or reviews add-ons. Many schools and companies restrict marketplace add-ons. An Apps Script in your own form isn’t an add-on, and runs under your own account.
- You can’t share responses with a third party. Installing an add-on means granting it access to your form and its responses. A script in your own account never sends them anywhere.
- You want it to keep working. A script you own can’t stop working because an outside service changes its plan or shuts down.
Side by side
| Marketplace add-on | Form Choice Limiter | |
|---|---|---|
| How it’s installed | From the Workspace Marketplace | Pasted into your form’s Apps Script |
| Who runs the code | The add-on’s publisher | You, in your Google account |
| Access to your responses | Granted to the add-on | Stays in your account |
| Limits per option | Yes | Yes |
| Checkbox and dropdown questions | See the add-on’s listing | Yes (full script) |
| Close the form when everything is taken | See the add-on’s listing | Yes (full script) |
| Cost | See the add-on’s listing | Free for one question, $7 once for everything |
Switching over
- Remove the add-on from the form so two tools aren’t editing the same options.
- Put back any options it removed, so the script starts from your full list.
- Build your script with the free generator, or use the full script for several questions, then run setup once.
Existing responses still count. If 3 people already chose a slot with a limit of 4, it has one seat left from the moment setup runs.
Set it up in two minutes
Build the free script for one question, or get the full version for $7 once: any number of questions, checkboxes and dropdowns, auto-close and restore.
